Lee Fisher Speaks at Rotary
by John Newburger
O
n May 20, Lee Fisher attended the Chagrin Highlands Rotary meeting and presented an
outstanding speech to 30 attendees. Fisher served on the Ohio House of Representatives, the
Ohio Senate, was Attorney General of Ohio from 1991 to 1995, was Lieutenant Governor of
Ohio from 2007 to 2011, and was the Democratic nominee for Governor in 1998, losing to Bob Taft.
He is currently CEO and pres-
ident of "CEOs for Cities," which
was his main topic of discussion.
As such, he brings together
CEOs, mayors and other doers in
various cities who collaborate to
find opportunities for their cities
and make appropriate changes.
Fisher discussed how CEOs for
Cities identifies problems and
most importantly, develops
solutions. He also discussed how
rapidly technology is changing
today and what makes cities
great.
Cleveland, for example, is
reinventing itself. Changes
include Public Square improve-
ments, and the redevelopment
of downtown with apartments
and restaurants that attract
young people, 25 to 35 years
of age. These changes, along
with the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame and the Republican
National Convention (RNC),
have put Cleveland on the map
as a destination location. In
order for CEOs for Cities to be
successful, all involved must
believe in their city to make it
great again.
