8 Beachwood Buzz June 2016
Business of the Year:
Beachwood Buzz
Presented by Donnamarie Cook
B
eachwood Buzz was established in 1996
with a mission of enriching the lives
of Beachwood residents by being a
publication about the Beachwood commu-
nity, for the Beachwood community and by
the Beachwood community. Almost 20 years
later, that mission is still in effect. Beachwood
Buzz contains communications from the city,
schools and Beachwood Chamber of Com-
merce, as well as information about Beach-
wood residents, businesses, events and other
items of interest. It saturates the market with
9,000 copies distributed each month, through
the U.S. Postal Service, to every Beachwood
resident and business. Thanks to the Beach-
wood community and Beachwood Buzz
advertisers, this business model continues to
be the most effective way to reach the Beach-
wood market. You can learn more about
Beachwood Buzz and see archived issues at

O
n Thursday, May 5, the Beachwood Chamber of Commerce
held its 6th Annual Beachwood Chamber Awards program
at the Embassy Suites-Beachwood, at which Citizen, Busi-
ness and Civic Organization of the Year were recognized.
The program, free and open to the community, also included net-
working, appetizers and a motivational, upbeat conversation with
Bernie Moreno, president of Bernie Moreno Companies, and Jim
Doutt, City of Beachwood economic development director.
Event chair Larry Mattes, donned in a tux, did an elegant job as
master of ceremonies.
The program began with Moreno and Doutt's relaxed conversa-
tion, which focused on entrepreneurial spirit and how Moreno built
his company to 31 automotive dealerships after purchasing his first
one, in 2005, which is now Mercedes-Benz of North Olmsted.
Next, winners of the 5th Annual Fitness Challenge, Sports & Spine
Physical Therapy and DDR, were presented awards by Marybeth
Mack who served on the event committee; and awards from Taste of
Beachwood were presented by Donnamarie Cook, BCC board presi-
dent, to Maplewood Senior Living for being voted "Best Display," and
Choolaah Indian BBQ for "People's Choice."
Debby Zelman Rapoport was then recognized as the 2015 NOACC
(Northern Ohio Area Chambers of Commerce) Bright Star and
presented an award by Cook. NOACC Bright Stars from about 40
chambers of commerce across northern Ohio were recognized in
October at Windows on the River for their contributions.
Congratulations to the following 2015 finalists and winners:
